How did you get into modeling without paying all those dumb fees or taking all those ridiculous classes?

I am a 24 year old female that has made many attempts at breaking into the modeling industry. I have been solicited by many companies that want me to pay thousands of dollars for pictures or to attend classes. What has been the best way for you to get into the business? Any success stories?
