Why am I suddenly getting mail from Yahoo Groups?

Why am I just starting to get mail from Yahoo Groups Updates? I never solicited them yet they're sending me updates allot. I have belonged to several Yahoo Forum Groups for many years never receiving Yahoo Updates. Now, when I stopped all group updates, they're saying I won't receive any email from those groups, confusing.
